The Tables Turned By William Wordsworth

SPECS AND SLIMS

SUBJECT MATTER
The tables turned demonstrates to it's audience the importance of going out into the world and experiencing the nature around us. Wordsworth emphasises the importance of nature, as he says "Come forth into the light of things,
Let Nature be your Teacher."
As the poem progresses it is said that you learn more from nature than staying in a cramped environment reading booking that can only give you so much information. Wordsworth also says that
Spontaneous wisdom breathed by health,
Truth breathed by cheerfulness.
Wordsworth is preaching to his audience that mother nature has more to teach than books. Giving a happier and more interactive atmosphere than a boring four walled room.
The tables turned is relevant to todays readers as the title 'the tables turned' relates to stepping into the others shoes for instance, moving outdoors in comparison to staying hunched over reading a book.

~ My Daddy's a Diver ~

1.

-Title

- Tells the story of an event (the father of the child in the story looses his wife, as he kills fish for a living to survive. He will never kill a fish that has a mate so the other fish is never alone and doesn’t have to suffer like he did)– it isn’t just a piece of reflective writing: there is a moral behind the story

- Has a 24-hour time period (as he goes fishing and then makes dinner)

- Meets the pattern of a short story (when he shoots the fish he reaches his goal)

- Have a restricted number of characters – Lizzie the daughter, Mother, father and deckhands.

- Dialogue (fits the type of story and the is subtle)

- Balances the showing and telling

- Uses characterization to achieve his goal

- Imagery

- Figurative language

- Changes sentence structure

2. - The story connects with the reader very effectively as the symbolic meaning of not killing the fish represents the mother and his loss of his wife.

- He doesn’t ever kill a fish with a partner, as it is a metaphor for his loss of his wife.

- The story connects to the reader via the use of empathy. The reader puts themselves in the mans shoes as he is unhappy/sad and we can all relate to this. The emotions and thoughts that come out of this story are of sadness, self-realisation and happiness. "Daddy, do fish cry? Life has moments of truth. This was one".

3. - Some of the ideas, attitudes and values that underpin this text are of self-realization. Without the man realising "Thou shalt not destroy companionship" the story would have no base and nothing to go on.

4. -Both inner and physical. Physical because his goal is to catch a fish for the human need of hunger, inner because he compares himself to the mated fish and by killing one he is evidentially condemning it to the same situation he is in now as he has lost his beloved wife.

5. - The story as a whole is very effective. It gets the point across in under 850 words and the author has used despair and love to play with the readers feelings making them want to read more. The imagery in this text is very vivid and strong. "Coarse sand patch tawny reef", the use of many adjectives in this quote help us get a proper image of the kind of conditions he was swimming in.

My Daddy’s a Diver Paragraph

The brief, yet poignant physical and inner journey of a single father, James Cameron’s, My Daddy’s a Diver is a representative of the requirement of the short story genre. Through the use of short story techniques Cameron has brought the story alive about a man and the panicle of his life, his daughter. The title My Daddy’s Diver plays a major role in the importance of the relationship between the two characters, exemplifying how Cameron demonstrates his traits and attributes to the audience. The significance of the word ‘Daddy’ in the title reveals how this is said from a little girl’s point of view, even though the story is narrated from the father.

My Daddy’s a Diver shows the relationship that is shown through the fish, it is a metaphor for the relationship between the father and deceased mother. Through the journey Cameron reveals the feelings of the father and how he reacts to the situation. Using short story techniques it shows how Cameron has made the major climax of the story subtle. This is done by the fathers morals being broken by killing the matted fish, being a metaphor for never killing those who love one another.

Everyone is on a journey

Outside stood still a red and white coloured vehicle with the dew from the morning sitting on the roof. As i turned the engine on it made a noisy raw, i waited in the car for mum to come out whilst listening to the radio. The motion of the car was rolling back down the gutter and slowly onto the road. Into first and the dew on the car roof was long gone. The tick tick of the blinker to turn right was agitating, though i do love the smell of a new car. It's a dry smell but has a tinge of freshness, like a stronger version of air freshener. Red and Green flashing lights on large silver sticks indicating the traffic to go and stop were appearing everywhere, and so was the traffic. Within 20 minutes of going from 1st gear to 4th visa versa, the back gate of school appeared. Up the deep gutter, which i have been instructed to go side on with one wheel otherwise i will scratch the paint under the front grill. Then i parked on the mulch on the right next to the ballet cabin. Put my socks and shoes on as i find it hard to drive a manual car with big shoes on. I then took the L plates of the back and mum hopped into the driver seat. Said by by to mum and walked up to class. As i walked up the stairs i see courtney, lauren and emma on the bridge, I dump my bag and sit down with them and catch up what everyone did on the weekend. The bell rang 5 minutes later and the beginning of the week started.

Attention to Detail

Blonde hair, brown eyes and a heart of gold. Mintie is an intelligent individual, always follows you around, even to the toilet. She stands by you when your sick and always sticks by to be your best friend no matter what. She runs like a torpedo and swims like an athlete, you couldn't believe how fast. No wonder they are used to help the blind and sick recuperate. Mintie is my best friend and always will be, she's one of a kind. At 12 years of age there is no one i would rather be with. Being part of the family she likes to spend her days lying under the table or sprawled out on the glass keeping up with her sun tan. She has no tan lines and definitely wears the best of clothes. Always smiling, cheerful and out there to catch you when you fall, Mintie is definitely always in my heart.
